Access VetMed (www.accessvetmed.eu) is the new name for the former European Group for Generic Veterinary Medicines (EGGVP). The association is active since 2002, aiming to achieve sustainable animal health policies and legislation and facilitating access and responsible use of veterinary medicines in Europe, as part of the One Health approach. It is formed by 25 generic veterinary pharmaceutical companies (including LIVISTO) that are present in 31 E.U. countries, employs more than 7600 people and sustains 45% of all generic veterinary medicines marketing authorisations in Europe. The name change is a clear statement as ACCESS is an acronym for: Availability, Compliance, Convenience, Efficacy, Safety and Savings. These features have a significant impact to animal health and well-being, which also directly contributes to human and environmental health. Access VetMed aims to be recognised as the European industry voice for generic and added-value veterinary medicines, as members are increasingly producing products with improved features, such as a more convenient form, dosage or palatability when compared to the originator.

Veterinarians play a big role in the One health initiative preventing disease transmission from animals to humans while ensuring that animals are in the best welfare conditions. They do so by providing a continued care of the animals on the clinics and in the field with their daily work and supporting pet owners and farmers in this difficult time. This year is the 20th anniversary of this world day and the topic of the celebration is: “protection of the environment to improve human and animal health”, to highlight the role of the veterinarians in the mitigation of the negative effects in the environment by promoting the responsible use of antibiotics and looking for new alternatives of treatment and management that are environmentally friendly. This day helps to the achieve a better acknowledgment and visibility to the global veterinary community around the World. Given the current situation with Covid-19 and the new sanitary measures that different countries are now adopting, we‘d like to inform you that our maximum priority nowadays is to maximize our efforts to collaborate with the rest of professional collectives to face and control the virus; a virus that is debilitating the society, our countries and specially to our most vulnerable beings. At LIVISTO group, belonging to the Animal health sector, we know the importance of our services, so now more than ever we will keep offering our services to our customers, trying to keep the normality as far as possible, to be able keep the health status by providing medicines to the farms and hence guaranteeing the food supply to the population. This is an unknown challenge for all of us and we are aware that it will be difficult, but we will keep working from our facilities and from our homes with the same passion and commitment to be able to be ALONG WITH YOU.

The mastitis conference was given by Demetrio Herrera, consultant of Q-Llet. During the seminar, subjects such as prevention and treatment of mastitis were covered. The session started with a presentation of the LIVISTO Group and the “LIVISTO Solutions for mastitis” was explained to show the LIVISTO products aimed for mastitis and to promote the responsible use of antibiotics. Finally, it was also presented our continuing e-learning platform: LIVISTO In-Practice. A total of 21 private veterinarians from different regions of Greece participated in this training.

The aim of this institution is to raise awareness about the associated risk to the emergence of superbacteria as a consequence of an inadequate use of antibiotics and to promote its prudent use, both in human and animal health, with the aim of preventing the emergence of resistances. As a pharmaceutical veterinary company, we are aware of the importance of the correct use of antibiotics and for this reason, at LIVISTO we carry on actions aligned with this campaign. Last Thursday 14th, Sandra Campero -Global Director of Global Marketing Livestock- attended a round table about the use of antibiotics to show the LIVISTO perspective about the subject from the pharmaceutical and commercial point of view.

At the beginning of September we started a campaign to promote parasite control in El Salvador by raising awareness on its importance among the farmers. The main activity of the campaign were a series of technical talks held in three different locations in the country. In total, around 200 people attended the seminars that were held in San Miguel, Santa Ana and Chalatenango. At the talks, the audience –veterinarians, farmers and pharmacy owners- could learn the advantages of parasite control as well as the need for it in order to achieve good productive results and maintain animal welfare. We, at LIVISTO, are committed with our customers by bringing them updated information about our products and how and when to use them.

Monday’s subject was cattle farming. Our teams from Barcelona and Russia shared their experience in different fields regarding cattle farming such as reproduction programs, antiparasitic protection, or mastitis prevention and treatment. After lunch, we took a tour around the farm in order to learn the particularities of cattle farming in Spain compared to their countries. The farm we visited is certified for Animal Welfare thanks to the good conditions the animals are in. They even play relaxing music to the dry cows so that they are calm and spend more time resting before parturition. It is always interesting for the farmers and veterinarians from other countries to be able to visit farms in different areas in order to compare the different systems and equipments they have. On Tuesday, the topics were pig production and poultry production. During the day we reviewed the most relevant topics in both species and gave a range of solutions to the main pathologies affecting these animals. This kind of events help us to weave stronger links with our customers and also allow us to learn from their needs in their daily practice so that we can bring them new solutions in the future.

Recently, on July 23rd, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) confirmed the presence of a new ASF focus on a pig farm with 17,000 susceptible animals, located near the border with Romania. On July 25th, the OIE/WOAH informed of the emergence, for the first time, of ASF in Slovakia, after a confirmed case of a pig from a backyard located near the border with Hungary (a country already affected by the disease since last June). The global pattern of distribution of ASF in this period reveals a serious spread of the disease, mainly in Europe, and in Asia, after the first occurrence in China in 2018. The European Union has laid down prevention and control measures to be applied where African swine fever is suspected or confirmed either in holdings or in wild boars, with the aim of preventing more spreads in order to erradicate the disease.

Veterinary Medicine Department from Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences together with Section of Physiology and Pathology of Polish Society of Veterinary Sciences took care of wide science programme in which there were raised important issues in poultry pathology on XXI century standards. Vets had the opportunity to improve their knowledge and share their experiences. Taking part in this event gave us the opportunity to show poultry products portfolio and take care of relations with vets.
